Opencals installs on your Shopify store like any other app: from the Shopify App Store or an install bar, you approve the permissions, and Opencals opens right inside your Shopify admin. This guide walks the whole flow — starting the install, approving OAuth access, landing in the embedded dashboard — and then explains what syncs: your Shopify products become bookable services, checkout and payments run through Shopify, and customers and orders stay linked across both platforms.
Installing takes three clicks: enter your store name, approve the permissions, and Opencals opens inside your Shopify admin. From there your Shopify products sync in as bookable services, bookings run through Shopify checkout and payments, and customers and orders stay in sync both ways — no separate storefront or payment processor to set up.
Before you start
You'll need a Shopify store and admin access to it. That's it — Opencals uses your Shopify login, so there's no separate account to create. If you want to try it risk-free first, create a development store on partners.shopify.com and install Opencals there for free.
Step 1 — Start the install
Install Opencals from the Shopify App Store, or start right here: enter
your store name (the part before .myshopify.com) and click Install. That kicks off Shopify's secure
OAuth authorization flow.
If you came from the App Store instead, click Add app and you'll land on the same authorization screen — the flow is identical from here.
Step 2 — Approve the permissions
Shopify shows you exactly what Opencals can access before anything is installed. Opencals asks for the scopes it needs to run bookings inside your store: products, orders, customers, and your online store themes. Review them and click Install app.
This app can access
Each permission maps to a real part of the integration:
- Products — so your Shopify products can be read and synced in as bookable services.
- Orders — so a booking can create a Shopify order and stay linked to the appointment.
- Customers — so customer records sync between Shopify and Opencals.
- Themes — so the booking button can be added to your storefront.
Opencals never handles the money
Payments run entirely through Shopify checkout. Opencals reads orders and creates them, but funds settle through your existing Shopify payment setup — there's no separate Stripe connection to configure on a Shopify store.
Step 3 — Open the embedded Opencals admin
After you approve, Shopify installs the app and drops you into Opencals — running inside your Shopify admin, authenticated with your Shopify session. There's no second dashboard to log into: Opencals lives under Apps → Opencals in your Shopify admin, alongside Products, Orders, and everything else.
Welcome to Opencals
Your Shopify products are syncing as bookable services. Add a schedule and staff to start taking appointments.
A Connected badge confirms the store is linked. The initial product sync starts immediately, so by the time you're looking at this screen your catalog is already on its way in.
Step 4 — Confirm your products synced
Open Products in the embedded admin. Every Shopify product is pulled in and turned into a bookable service — Opencals keeps the Shopify title, description, and price, and stores the link back to the original product behind the scenes.
Products
3 products syncedFrom here you add the booking details Shopify doesn't have — a schedule, staff members, duration, and availability — to make each service take appointments. Your booking configuration lives in Opencals; product titles, descriptions, and prices continue to come from Shopify, so editing a product in Shopify updates the matching service automatically.
Edit product basics in Shopify, booking setup in Opencals
Titles, descriptions, and prices are owned by Shopify and flow one way into Opencals. Staff, locations, schedules, and booking rules are owned by Opencals. Keeping each in its home avoids sync conflicts.
Step 5 — Take a booking through Shopify checkout
Once a service has a schedule, customers book it right on your Shopify storefront, pick a time slot, and check out through Shopify's normal checkout and payment flow. The order is created in Shopify, and Opencals creates the matching appointment and links the two.
Because orders live in both places, everything you already do in Shopify — refunds, fulfillment, customer history — keeps working, and every one of those orders is also a booking in Opencals with a date, time, and assigned staff.
